Chibi ears are hard bc they have to be rounded to be doll like, but then they look like dog ears.

I'm sure Dragoon would have been decent if it had actually finished. It's a bit of a departure from the other shows I watched, even though it is filled to the brim with stock fantasy cliches. Which makes sense considering that it's based off a PC98 RPG. Here's what I found within the first 15 minutes: - Armageddon machine - Armageddon machine controlled by genetically-engineered naked girl wrapped up in wires who commands untold power but can’t control it - Evil empire using advanced magic-infused technology to dominate other nations - Scene taken straight out of a few Chronicles of the Heroic Knight panels - Gentle amnesiac girl who looks suspiciously like Neese found in the wild - Strapping young lad who looks suspiciously like Spark who swears to protect the girl who looks suspiciously like Neese - Boob gag (x3) - Faceless empire soldiers - Demanding and brash loli sister - Strapping young lad fights in the name of dying father - The strapping young lad's quest to find himself - Girl regains power and memory through love - Some generic sage sword advice about how it is wielded from the heart etc. Yeah, the mc and his girl look a little too much like the main characters from the last Lodoss manga arc/TV show (this show came out before the TV show, but the colors of the characters had already been established on the manga covers). Even one of the scenes at the very beginning nearly mirrors Neese's encounter with some pirate who wants to rape her from the manga... except that instead of her captor killing the pirate, this girl ends up blowing up the ship with disco lights. And one fight scene with a big fat dude directly lifts its intro from the Heart vs. Kenshiro fight in HNK. Anyway. The plot is pretty typical: Evil empire is building some giant death cannon shaped like a dragon called the Dragoon and it's powered by their genetically engineered meek helpless amnesiac girl. Somehow, she escapes from captivity and ends up (naked) in a snowy forest, where our strapping young lad discovers her (naked) while practicing his Lv1 sword spells and takes her back to his cabin (naked. Not him, her). It turns out that, surprise surprise, the Empire happens to be searching for her in the forest, and so after receiving some sage advice about following your own path and a legendary sword from his father, our young hero sets off with the girl and his twintail loli sister whose audio seems to be mixed too loudly. Along the way, they will meet new friends, escape evil people, and meet with noble queens who are promptly forgotten about. Oh yeah, and Miu goes topless many, many times. Yeah, there's a lot of mid-90s quality fanservice. I haven't played the PC98 game (featured below) and don't plan on doing so any time soon. But given the nature of PC98 games, I can only imagine that there are a fair amount of unnecessary naked shots. This was apparently fairly popular in Japan at the time. Dragoon's presentation is average at best. Nothing remarkable, nothing glaringly-flawed except for the occasional moment where a nameless bad guy goes flying off screen or out a window but is then cut short, which actually ends up being funny for all the wrong reasons. As mentioned before, the story is riddled with cliches that had already been deeply established by 1997, and the pacing feels too fast at times, as if it were trying to say way more than it could. This is probably due to the RPG containing a lot of plot and world elements that just can't be crammed into a 30 minute block of time. Despite all of these issues, I was actually a little disappointed to see Dragoon end so abruptly and on such a positive note. It seemed that by the end of Ep3, the writers had finally started getting settled into their story. The gang was all there, and they were heading toward a brighter future in a neighboring town (which would probably have been attacked by the Empire again anyway, but hey, that means more fight scenes at least). We never get to see the Dragoon itself in action except for in the first five minutes of the first episode, either, which is a letdown. So Dragoon managed to rope me in after all. While certainly not the most promising thing I'd ever experienced, I did want to see its stock story come to closure. It's pretty forgettable, but in a genre steeped in tired storylines and character archetypes, you have to take what you can get. Stupid lolis. — I think I'll read/watch Rune Soldier next, finally. It's a spinoff of Lodoss that takes place on the main continent and is more light-hearted than Mizuno's other series. Should be fun. And it has some /pe/ in it too, namely Deedlit 2.0. There's also Sorcerer Hunters, but because that series is also a comedy and has no pe, I'm not sure if I want to watch all 26 episodes. Maybe I'll just watch the 3-part OVA. To be honest, I'm not sure how much more of this genre I can take before it all starts bleeding together.

densuo Does Celecia show up again after the weather tower mini arc (Rune Soldier Louie)? I know she pretty much lead Louie on, but there's also a hint of actual compassion between them in the cave scene that suggests that she'll show up one more time in the future. It'd be kind of a waste if the story forgot about her. They never show her using her sword or teaching him how to use his own sword... then again I think the only gripe I have with the show so far is that there always seems to be 2-3 minutes of important action that was left out. Plus she is tiny and adorable.

Then again, the manga takes a bit of a different tone than the anime. Understandably. Oh look, more loli magicians for crazy/diveman
