Overrated entry in an already-overwrought medium whose appeal lies almost entirely in its vapid, donkey-eared heroine.

It's an insult that /tg/ likes to throw around. That was the troll line I've been waiting to use that I was going to post in that thread but it was locked. After all, one must learn to love before one can hate. Carry on with your scheduled programming.

Didn't you know that all doors are wider in Middle Earth?
It's kind of funny since if you lived in the forest and ran through trees and branches all the time, you'd want to have the shortest ears possible so they wouldn't get snagged on things. But I guess forest hippies have their ways.

This show is silly. Very mid-90s Japanese humor.
Those Who Hunt Elves, by the way.

That lovely ear above is from Those Who Hunt Elves, which is something I had seen mentioned a lot in the past but had never gotten around to watching. It's entertaining if you go in with the mindset that it's a pretty typical mid-90s comedy anime. Lots of slapstick and silly gags. Whereas Dragon Half is more a parody of the Fantasy genre itself, this is more like a standard comedy that uses Fantasy as its framework.

GER basically divides the you by 0 KC erases time, while being able to look at 5~ seconds in the future(?)

As Jolly said GER essentially resets thing back to zero and can essentially ignore all other stand abilities, which has raised a big fan debate regarding an event in Stone Ocean you'll see eventually. It's really dumb and hard to explain, but it makes sense its just broken as fuck. Ok first what needs to be explained and is often forgotten or missed is Diavolo has two stand abilities. King Crimson allows him to erase 10 seconds and cause a time skip. The area of effect of this however is presented very inconsistently though because Araki. His second often missed ability is Epitaph which allows him to see 10 seconds (or whatever KC's timeskip length is) into the future and function normally through the time skip. The most common example to explain this is if you shot a gun at him he could erase the time the bullet is travelling towards and eventually hits him and it would technically miss because it would time skip passed him. Also since you may have forgot I'll point out Vento features the greatest plot hole with GE getting pierced by the arrow at the beginning and nothing happening

Just finished Those Who Hunt Elves. Ending was kinda whatever, but it's fitting. And if there's one thing the show wants me to take out of it, it's that the journey is more important than the destination. Or something.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun with it. Like I said earlier, it's a show whose name I had seen thrown around on various parts of the Internet, and whose premise was so tantalizingly stupid that I finally had to watch it after noyk mentioned it last year. It's about a group of three travellers from Earth who are teleported into a Fantasy world, and their only hope for getting back home is to collect spell fragments off the bodies of random elves... after stripping them. Irreverent 90s anime Comedy ensues.
So you — like myself — are probably wondering how the show could keep this gag running for two 12-episode seasons. And the answer is that they do, somehow, but because the stripping conceit stops being the central focus of the humor and mostly becomes the signature coup de grace for each episode. In between the hunt for the next elf are the antics you'd expect out of a ragtag team of walking archetype parodies, and while they're not likely to induce many belly laughs, do a decent enough job of using the Fantasy setting's framework to set up schemes and gags that are satisfying in their conclusions. Again, that's pretty typical of anime comedy. Maybe there's just something I don't get that makes me feel good inside more than it makes me burst out loud laughing when it comes to this kind of thing.
The show isn't without its faults. Any show with the premise of traveling around and taking peoples' clothes off won't be without faults. The faint thread of a romantic relationship is introduced near the end of the first season, as is the promise of a development where the two worlds will collide if the heroes aren't transported back to their own home in time. Neither are developed at all in the second season. Not to mention that the three heroes' horrible reputations could have easily been avoided if Celcia had swallowed her pride and just gone out and collected the spell fragments herself. Or that the group could (and does, on a couple occasions) explain their predicament to these random elves to get them to undress with little fuss. I'm not sure if this is the adaptation effect in action, or if these plot points are supposed to be jokes in themselves. I'm tempted to say the former, because the show can be watched in any order except for the last few episodes of each season that suggest that somewhere in the source material, there is a coherent plot that threads these misadventures together. And I understand that the show has to be this way for the humor to even exist, but it becomes a little less... believable, I guess, when you're reminded of these gaping holes in the story.
Also there's no reason for Celcia to get stuck in animal form for 90% of the show, other than to play up the cute mascot archetype. Maybe it's done better in the manga, I don't know. Or maybe it's to tease the viewer by taking away what was probably the main reason they even started watching the show in the first place. But she's far more entertaining as an elf.
Despite these flaws, TWHE still delivers on its promise to make you feel satisfied inside. Each episode's plot is self-contained, and they all wrap up nicely. The characters are all parodies of standard archetypes (the hot blooded meathead, the spunky military otaku, etc.), complete with the expected obsessions and habits, but they fit into these roles well. The only character who annoyed me at first was Airi, because 1.) She felt too infallible for the majority of the first season, despite being the straight woman of the group, and 2.) She has a sword but never uses it once. And I stil think the Oscar winning actress shtick is supposed to be some Japanese cultural joke that I don't understand. It definitely suffers from adaptation syndrome in some spots, but since the show is a comedy, those gaps are easily forgiven (the amount of elves and curry this show offers also makes up for these flaws). It's a fun watch that somehow manages to stay surprisingly solid in spite of its subject matter, and might be worth your time if you're looking for another mind melt where you can sit back and watch a couple episodes to finish off the night.
Also there's a tank that meows and acts like a cat. That's pretty memorable.

Was gonna go through all of Slayers but that's like 70 episodes or something. I've only seen the first series.
So I'll watch Ruin Explorers instead, since that's only 4 episodes. Nice and short.
