What the title says. SMITE is a game you guys should come play because it's not shit. People aren't douches, the devs don't suck at balancing and maintaining the game, it's easy to pick up but hard to master, you get a bunch of free stuff, and it rewards skill very well.
Also, it's in a third-person point of view, rather than the typical top-down perspective, so it's quite unique for the genre. That change is also way better in the long run.
If you're interested in mythology, you'll be happy to know that all playable characters are Gods taken from various mythological figures. Norse, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Hindu, Chinese and Mayan Gods are all amongst those featured currently.

but it has so many gods that can mandrop
and the third person thing actually works really well because the game is built with it kept in mind that almost everything is a skillshot

but it has so many gods that can mandrop Mantheon puts the pathetic gods of Smite to shame I played it once and it felt like somebody made an outdated, graphically inferior FPS but put it in the wrong genre.

it's worth pointing out that the game's completely free
it's better than playing an outdated, graphically inferior RTS that's put in the wrong genre
also how is a game that's explicitly over the shoulder an fps

Compared to League which... isn't free? There's a reason most strategy games are in bird's eye view, and having seen the view one has in Smite, I don't like it at all.

League's free, but SMITE gives a fuckload of things just for playing. When's the last time League gave away free RP just for playing the game?
The fact that it's free was more or less pointed out because there's no real reason not to try it, and it sounds like you tried it when it was in Beta.
Meh, if it's not a game you like then I don't really see what the point is in you commenting on this thread, tbh. I'm trying to get others to give it a try. If it's a format you're not interested in, and you already know it, I don't really have much else I can say.

Fair enough. Admittedly it is somewhat harsh for me to judge it based on relatively little time playing it, I guess it just isn't for me.

To be fair, if you had picked Ao Kuang/Kukulkan then I could kind of understand, nobody likes anybody that picks that God. He's probably the most straight-forward MOBA character I've ever seen, which makes it frustrating that he's a high tier pick.

If I remember right, I played as Ra. I recall being blown up by an enemy Poseidon repeatedly from what seemed like a very long range at the time.

Poseidon's a fairly high ranged character. Ra's not. It's like when we discussed Rumble vs. Malphite. You're not likely to have fun. Ra's a starter God anyways, so he's more or less gonna permanently be a middle of the road God. IIRC, Poseidon's a fairly powerful pick.

So, Ao Kuang, a god that used to be in the game but got changed into a completely unrelated god named Kukulkan, was released in an actual form today. Think like if Riot decided to remove a champ, put in a new champ with the exact same kit, and then put the original champ in completely differently. This was done because of thematic issues with Ao Kuang's original concept. He's a completely free god anyways, so it's not like anything was lost when he was swapped for Kukulkan.
Anyways, my assessment? Jesus Christ, this fucker is busted. Seriously, his 2 can make his auto-attacks deal obscenely high damage per hit, which, considering how his auto-attack rotation works, lets him get in four attacks in about 1.5 seconds at full build. This damage, if you've built him properly, is a flat 40 damage from an item, plus a base damage from 2 of 120 per hit for the next six attacks, plus 30% magical power scaling on that buff.
So, say if you had 500 magical power (not out of the question once he gets fully built), each AA would deal its base, plus 40 magical damage, plus 120 magical damage, plus 150 magical damage. So effectively, your auto-attacks, which again you would have like four per a little more than a second, would deal around 350 damage, just as a guess if his base physical damage is factored in.
He's one of those characters who is incredibly fun, but you feel like an asshole for picking because it's not fair to the enemy.
